Poppy Carew's problem is that when it comes to men she can't make up her mind which one to go to bed with or which one to take as a husband. She is attractive and strong-minded and her father has just died leaving her with money and no worries so she is thoroughly independent. She can take her time, and make her mistakes before choosing the right man. So Poppy Carew vacillates and that is the basis of the film.
