Yorkshire in the 1880's. Lionel Filmore sires an illegitimate child. He also has his sights set on Victoria, the naive cousin of Bridget Mordaunt, and the wealth he wrongly assumes is hers. Murder and crimes follow. A factory owner falls in love with her foreman but tragedy awaits them when he is accused of murder.
